GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position possesses a keen understanding of the service array for individuals diagnosed with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and the mental health (MH) service system. This position serves as a Community Educator for the nine-county service area. The community educator will reach out to the agencies who work to support local communities within our service area to provide specialized training to clinicians, school personnel, law enforcement, parents, and service providers. This position will be certified to provide specifically developed education on clinical interactions and treatment for the MH/IDD population. The role of this position will serve to educate and decrease unfamiliarity and apprehension in community agencies by helping to develop a skillset on how to appropriately engage with and be more capable of providing services to individuals diagnosed with IDD. The Community Educator is responsible for carrying out the certified training curriculum by hosting classes in the community for which participants will be able to secure Continuing Education Units (CEUs) upon successful completion of the course. This position will be responsible for organizing, training, tracking data, holding monthly training opportunities, and collecting course satisfaction surveys after each class is conducted. Data collection and reporting is required, and strong organizational skills are a necessity. This position is required to develop information materials for distribution and training purposes and deliver presentations and information which promotes the needs of those diagnosed with IDD/MH. This position will be housed in Lytle, Texas and an agency vehicle will be available for travel within our service area. The community educator receives direct supervision from the Crisis Intervention and Eligibility Determination Director.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in (or the equivalent to a major, i.e., 24 hours of course work) in psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human growth and development, physician assistant, gerontology, special education, education psychology, early childhood education, or early childhood intervention; OR a registered nurse.
- Experience with public speaking or community training.
- Must possess proficient computer skills.
PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience working with people diagnosed with IDD.
- Lives in the service area.
- English/Spanish skills; demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to complete documentation as required and reports accurately and timely.
- Ability to complete the required training.
- Skilled in customer relations with strong professional communication skills.
- Works well with co-workers and teams.
- Possess good computer skills.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to program.
- Ability to submit required documentation and/or reposts accurately and timely.
- Highly motivated, excellent work ethic, high degree of quality work.
- Ability to work under conditions requiring physical stamina and the ability to work in a stressful environment.
