GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general direction of the Program Director, Clinical Team Lead, or designated staff, the MCOT LPHA performs clinical activities such as independent assessments and service interventions as directed by the treatment plan and/or identified consumer need(s).  This position interfaces with treatment teams both inpatient and outpatient and authorizes the medical necessity of services, as indicated.  This position is responsible for providing the following services:  crisis intervention, mental health assessments, case management and follow-up, and liaison between the agency and the community.  MCOT interfaces with other programs in the agency, law enforcement, and the community.

The MCOT LPHA collaborates with the Community Response Team to perform community-based crisis assessments, determine needed level of care, assess for safety, and formulate diagnosis.  The MCOT LPHA provides crisis counseling and intervention to individuals to reduce symptoms, provide education and prevent admission to a more restrictive environment.  The MCOT LPHA collaboratively creates a treatment plan with the consumer to outline treatment goals.  The MCOT LPHA may provide case management activities to assist consumers in gaining and coordinating access to necessary care and services in accordance with treatment plan goals and monitors consumer progress with treatment goals and linkage to services.  The MCOT LPHA educates family members so they may understand the individual’s mental health symptoms, treatment, and asses with referring to community resources.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:
  • Master’s degree (M.A.) from four-year accredited college or university with a major in a social, behavior, or human
service field, including but not limited to psychology, social work, counseling, sociology, human development, and
educational psychology.
  • Current Texas State License (LCSW/LPC plus one to two years clinical experience; LPC-Associate plus 6 months
of clinical experience.
  • Must maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and be insurable under Agency policy.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience.
  • CBT certified.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish with demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish.
  • Reside in the service area.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
  • Knowledge of social work and/or counseling principles, theory, and methods.
  • Knowledge of applied behavioral science and evidenced-based practices in Psychology.
  • Knowledge in the area of enhancing social, psychosocial, or biopsychosocial functioning of individuals, couples,
families, groups, organizations, and communities.
  • Knowledge in the area of interviewing, assessment, and evaluation.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to plan, develop and implement consumer services.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professionals and individuals.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professional groups, exercise tact, initiative, and good
judgment when dealing with people and prepare reports and recommendations for administrative use.
  • Knowledge of the needs and characteristics associated with the target population.
  • Knowledge of local community resources, how to access those services and use them effectively.
  • Skills in performing assessments and developing a treatment plan for the individual.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, organize work efficiently, and respond to the changing needs of the individual.
  • Ability to work in a crisis.
  • Leadership abilities with the ability to identify problems/gaps in service.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to plan, develop, and implement consumer services.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others and provide guidance to other staff.
  • Must have ability to work under conditions requiring physical stamina and ability to work in a stressful environment.
