GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Camino Real Community Services is a Trauma Informed Care Agency and implements the principles of Trauma Informed Care.
Camino Real Community Services is looking for a Licensed Therapist (LPHA) or Master Level Clinician (MLC) to join our
Extended Observation/Crisis Unit Treatment Team.  Under the direction and leadership of the Crisis Services Director,
Clinical Team Lead, or designated staff, the LPHA performs clinical activities such as independent assessments and
service interventions as directed by the treatment plan and/or identified consumer need(s).  This position interfaces with
Treatment Teams both inpatient and outpatient and authorizes the medical necessity of services, as indicated. This
position is responsible for providing the following services: Crisis Intervention, Mental Health Assessments, case
management and follow-up, and liaison between the agency and the community.  EOU/CRU Team interfaces with other
programs in the Agency, law enforcement, and the community.

The Master Level Clinician performs community-based crisis assessments to determine needed level of care, assess for
safety and provides crisis counseling and intervention to individuals to reduce symptoms, provide education and prevent
admission to a more restrictive environment.  The clinician will collaboratively create a treatment plan with the consumer to
outline treatment goals and provides case management activities to assist consumers in gaining and coordinating access
to necessary care and services in accordance with treatment plan goals.

The MCOT Master Level Clinician monitors consumer progress with treatment goals and linkage to services.
The Licensed Therapist (LPHA) performs on-site crisis assessments to determine needed level of care, assess for safety,
and formulate diagnosis; crisis counseling and intervention to individuals to reduce symptoms, provide education and
prevent admission to a more restrictive environment; collaboratively creates a treatment plan with the consumer to outline
treatment goals; provides case management activities to assist consumers in gaining and coordinating access to
necessary care and services in accordance with treatment plan goals.  The LPHA will also monitor safety and progress
with treatment goals and linkage to services.  The LPHA educates family members so they may understand the
individual’s mental health symptoms, treatment and assist with referring to community resources.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:
  • Master’s degree (M.A.) from four-year accredited college or university with a major in a social, behavior, or human
service field, including but not limited to psychology, social work, counseling, sociology, human development, and
educational psychology.
  • Current Texas State License (LCSW/LPC plus one to two years clinical experience; LPC-Associate plus 6 months
of clinical experience.
  • Must maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and be insurable under Agency policy.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices utilized in clinical interventions.
  • Experience in assessments and treatment of different age groups.
  • Preferably experience working with adolescents and adults.
  • This is a 24/7 program which requires employees to work weekend and holiday shifts.
  • May be exposed to unfavorable conditions.
  • Interacts with individuals who may be emotional or physically hostile, agitated, or uncooperative.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply crisis intervention techniques.
  • Strong diagnostic skills, the ability to incorporate patient history, symptoms, environmental and related issues to
formulate proper diagnosis and treatment.
  • Strong communication skills, listening and interpersonal skills above average, written documentation is clear,
concise, and well- constructed.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish with demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish.
  • Reside in the service area.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
  • Knowledge of social work and/or counseling principles, theory, and methods.
  • Knowledge of applied behavioral science and evidenced-based practices in Psychology.
  • Knowledge in the area of enhancing social, psychosocial, or biopsychosocial functioning of individuals, couples,
families, groups, organizations, and communities.
  • Knowledge in the area of interviewing, assessment, and evaluation.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to plan, develop and implement consumer services.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professionals and individuals.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professional groups, exercise tact, initiative, and good
judgment when dealing with people and prepare reports and recommendations for administrative use.
  • Knowledge of the needs and characteristics associated with the target population.
  • Knowledge of local community resources, how to access those services and use them effectively.
  • Skills in performing assessments and developing a treatment plan for the individual.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, organize work efficiently, and respond to the changing needs of the individual.
  • Ability to work in a crisis.
  • Leadership abilities with the ability to identify problems/gaps in service.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to plan, develop, and implement consumer services.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others and provide guidance to other staff.
  • Must have ability to work under conditions requiring physical stamina and ability to work in a stressful environment.
