GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following is a list of job duties and responsibilities, including essential and marginal tasks:
Under the direction of the designated Adult MH clinic director, the Van Driver position at Camino Real Community Services will be required to perform general skilled motor vehicle operations, including operating vans or automobiles for transporting consumers, personnel, supplies, mail, and other cargo.  The Driver role involves working according to prescribed rules, regulations, and schedules, and adhering to written and verbal instructions while maintaining compliance with prescribed safety procedures.  Requires the upkeep and maintenance of company vehicles to ensure safe and reliable transportation for staff and clients.  The ideal candidate for this position should have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and experience in vehicle maintenance.  In addition, the ability to work independently, follow directions, and communicate effectively with staff and clients is essential.  Camino Real Community Services is committed to providing trauma-informed care, and all employees are required to undergo training in this area.  The Van Diver position has a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the MH Center and associated program areas, and the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the organization's mission.
 
  • Transport clients, personnel, supplies, mail, and other cargo as needed to designated locations while adhering to prescribed safety procedures.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the company vehicles, including checking for defects or damage, validating state registration and inspection stickers, and ensuring proper operation of all operating systems (e.g., brakes, horn, windshield wipers, lights, first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and door-opening devices) before starting trips.
  • Ensure that all clients and caregivers are safely and properly secured, including any necessary assistance required for boarding or exiting the vehicle, and assisting clients in reaching their designated offices or treatment areas upon arrival.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs or unclogging pipes.
  • Report any vehicle malfunctions or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately and maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance and repairs to submit to the proper authority.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required to stay informed about organizational policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to vehicle operations, including maintaining appropriate licensing and certifications as required.
  • Provide whatever assistance is required for clients and caregivers during transportation and promote positive public relations with patients, family members, and guests.
  • Support the principles of trauma-informed care by fostering a safe and respectful environment for clients and staff.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited High School or equivalency (GED).
  • Possess a valid Texas Driver’s license and have a good driving record.
  • Basic maintenance skills and knowledge of tools and equipment used in vehicle maintenance.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with others.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Demonstrate ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish.
  • Experience in the mental health field as well as experience in a community setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle operation, and of traffic rules and regulations.
  • Skills in operating motor vehicles.
  • Ability to follow practices in loading and unloading cargo and/or passengers with disabilities.
  • General knowledge of safety practices.
  • Ability to follow schedules for pickups.
  • Ability to work under conditions requiring physical stamina and ability to work in a stressful environment.
