GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following is a list of job duties and responsibilities, including essential and marginal tasks:

Under the general supervision of the DON, RN will be responsible for the overall care of the clients/individuals at the Crisis Residential Unit (CRU).  The RN will conduct nursing assessments and carry out treatment orders per the medical team of physicians or tele-health providers.  The RN will work with clients/individuals and staff to ensure that the clients are receiving appropriate services for both mental and medical healthcare while admitted to the CRU.  RN will conduct daily assessments of client’s progress regarding their treatment regimen and medication regimen.  The RN is responsible for reporting and pertinent information or findings to the attending MD that may affect the client’s physical or mental status.  He/She will also work closely with the LPHA and the Wood Group Staff to facilitate meeting the needs and goals of all the consumers at the Crisis Residential Unit as per Camino Real policy.

This job includes doing nursing physical assessments, psychological assessments, charting in the EMR, giving medications, using telemedicine (skype) for clients’ dr. visits, managing medications and supplies, and providing medication education to clients.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:
 
  • RN with a diploma or associate degree in nursing and 4 years of recent nursing experience as a registered nurse in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health care facility.
  • This position requires the ability to work rotating shifts, if necessary, to be available to work overtime, having rotating days off.
  • Applicants must live within one hour of the Crisis Residential Unit due to response requirements.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas without restrictions or limitations.
  • Work experience using Microsoft applications such as Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and Power Point.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Demonstrate ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish.
  • Experience in the mental health field as well as experience in a community and inpatient setting.
  • Experience with using an EMR.
  • Experience with nursing care and management of chronic health conditions.
  • Prefer experience with integrated Behavioral Health Primary Care concept.
  • Prefer experience with a psychiatric inpatient program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
  • Ability to work independently, to organize work efficiently, to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of individual needs/characteristics associated with mental illness and substance abuse.
  • Extensive skill in individual needs assessment and the ability to respond to the changing needs of the individual and the ability to work in a crisis situation.
  • Ability to work effectively with other professionals, individuals and groups, exercise good judgment when dealing with people.
  • Ability to work under conditions requiring physical stamina and ability to work in a stressful environment.
